Beauty's Best: 2016

Hello my loves, I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! With the New Year approaching, I decided to make a list of the best beauty hits from the past year. So many new trends, brands and products rose to prominence, so I've had so much fun gathering a list of my must haves from the past year.

1. A notable breakout brand of 2016 was Kylie Cosmetics. Kylie released her first lip kits in late 2015, but this year, she extended her brand to eyeshadow palettes, eyeliner, and some amazing limited edition collections. Some of my personal favorites are Dolce K, Mary Jo K, and the Burgundy Palette.

2. High end false lashes are one of my favorite kinds of beauty products. They are more durable and long-lasting than drugstore falsies. Beauty blogger Huda Kattan released a gorgeous line of lashes this year, that come in different volumes and styles. Huda's Scarlett lash is one of my essentials for dance performances!

3. One of this year's most talked about beauty collaborations was MAC x Selena. The line originally dropped in the beginning of October, but demand was so high that the next restock did not happen until the end of December! The collection featured beautiful red lipstick, unique eyeshadows, and other lovely pieces inspired by the late Selena Quintanilla. Stayed tuned for a makeup look using some of these products. :)

4. A brand I finally got around to trying this year was Colour Pop. They are affordable and cruelty free, and they make gorgeous highlighters, liquid lipsticks, eyeshadows and more. Among the products I tried were the famous highlighter "Lunch Money", the essential black liner "Swerve", and the "Bangin Brunette" brow pencil, as well as others. Colour Pop makes high quality products for a good price, so go ahead and splurge!

5. Finding the right makeup brushes can be a challenge, especially when you're on a budget. Elf Cosmetics brushes recently became cruelty free, and they are available at many drugstores for an affordable price. For applying liquid foundation, I've loved using the Ultimate Blending Brush during the past year, and I hope to try some of Elf's eyeshadow brushes soon.

Those are some of my favorite brands and products of 2016! My next post will likely be in 2017, so I hope you lovely babes have an amazing New Year!

Christmas Kisses

It's finally Christmas! I love this time of year. From the holiday music to the delicious treats, it is a holiday full of love and happiness. The festivities kicked off at the beginning of the week, when I had my final Christmas concert at school. I've been a member of the concert choir for all four years, and I've met some amazing friends through it. For my last concert, I knew I had to do an extra special makeup look.

To match my black choir gown, I did a classic, festive makeup look. I am particularly excited about the red lip- "Merry" from the Kylie Cosmetics holiday collection. It's a blue-toned red that's slightly deeper than Kylie's "Mary Jo K", which I also love. Not to mention, this lip kit came in gorgeous holiday packaging.

The beautiful lip kit box makes a perfect tree ornament!

The next holiday activity on my agenda is a party with some friends from school. A tradition since freshman year, we all gather at my friend Carolyn's house for Secret Santa, karaoke, and lots of yummy food. It's definitely a highlight of my Christmas season, and I can't wait for one final celebration before we all leave for college next year.

What are some of your favorite holiday traditions?

Gift Guide #3: The Music Lover

A recent trend I've been loving is band/singer merchandise, or "merch." It's trendy, and it's the perfect way to show your love for your favorite artist. As an outspoken Belieber, I have loved seeing so many bloggers and celebrities sport Purpose Tour t-shirts and accessories. You can find a similar beanie to the one from my collage here.

Fun headphones have become a cool fashion accessory, and they make the perfect gift for any music fan in your life. These kitty ear headphones from Brookstone are adorable, and they even have a pair inspired by Ariana Grande!

One of my good friends has a record player, and loves to listen to vinyl LPs. They are a really unique, old school gift for someone enjoys listening to music the old fashioned way. I included a picture of Mariah Carey's Christmas vinyl- a true holiday essential.

Mugs are always a great gift for coffee lovers, especially if they have a fun design or quote on them. I fell in love with this 90s R&B mug from Urban Outfitters, and I think it would be such a creative gift for any rhythm and blues fan.

Portable blue tooth speakers are perfect for holiday parties, especially ones that have a cute design. Kate Spade makes a stylish and functional speaker that will be a sure hit for anyone who loves to dance to their favorite Christmas tunes.

If all else fails, I've never met someone who was unhappy receiving an iTunes gift card. I love adding new music to my phone!

That's the end of my gift guide series for 2016! I hope these were helpful and gave you lots of gift-giving inspiration.
